My job application to Plastic Bank

Hello Hiring team at Plastic Bank, Please take this narrative, storytelling, and creative submission as my application for the position of Communications Manager with plastic bank. So, why do I want to work for this organization? I could say it would solve my ikigai. I could say it’s because the earth needs us to do better. I could say it is because we eat the plastic we dispose of. I could say it’s a sign of corporate social responsibility. I could say it is for the Newfoundlanders on Canada's Atlantic coast- especially for the small family at Eco-Tours where they always go out of their way to reduce ocean pollution. A perfect example was when they took us whale watching last summer and, at the end of the tour, picked up a smelly bag of diaper poop from the ocean (yes, that really happened). I could say I am doing it for my two nephews because, hopefully one day, I can inspire them to join me in saving our seas and forests. But what I will say is this: we are born in water and die on earth - so we must recognize our connection and duty to this land. The truth is I align with the purpose at plastic bank and have been wanting to work for this company for 5 years. I believe over these years, I have accumulated the required skill set and knowledge to help make a difference and contribute to your team. [photo of Tisaun and Raehan, 1.5 and 5 yrs old] I am an experienced writer, professionally and as an individual. In my profession, I create and manage social media and advertising content for the BC Public Service, BC, Canada, for the public engagement platform of engage.gov.bc.ca and Twitter handle of [at]govtogetherbc. Personally,, I am a public speaker, a podcaster, a storyteller, and an author. I currently host my work on whoiskaran[dot]com. I have experience living and working in Lagos, Nigeria, Mumbai, India, and various cities across Canada. Additional experiences: I have worked with GreyWorld Wide Digital marketing agency in Mumbai, India. I believe in sharing the message of plasticbank and already do so through my collaboration company of gnesri.com- where we connect people, products and services (spearheaded conversations with Rivitta (Calgary Company that produces a Green Tea Energy Drink which has partnered with plasticbank for its packaging). I would like to help shape the voice of plasticbank on an international scale.. My educational experience brought my knowledge and insights into sustainable practices across Europe with many transnational firms. I create and distribute PR and campaign copy for media outlets in BC, Canada. I have experience in technical writing and can mold and shift writing styles. I am an entrepreneurship management graduate from Royal Roads University and have worked in a fast-paced environments (like with start-up Verable where we created a platform for volunteers to do go. Hereere I worked from the group up and helped launch the business from pitch decks to development along with creating and deliver effective campaign materials. Working in a communications shop made me highly creative, self-motivated, and skillful when it comes to working independently, and I feel strongly about reducing ocean pollution, alleviating poverty, and growing the plasticbank Movement. We are in an age where companies who thrive on making make the world better will succeed. It is not the cryptocurrency agencies or the large tech firms - it is the companies that stand to make a difference, this is why I want to be a part of plastic bank. Today’s world is of collaborations and business innovations. Local company Vancouver, reusables.com has already started to reduce single-use plastics to reduce more our waste. Quoted from the company’s website: “Since the start of COVID-19, single-use packaging waste has exploded. Ellen MacArthur Foundation estimates there to be more plastic in the ocean than fish by 2050. The current make-use-waste economy is unsustainable. While many takeout containers claim to be recyclable, 86% of them end up in landfills.” So this company is providing reusable plastic, but what better if that plastic was directly the plastic which has already been discarded and now is reused for a better purpose i.e,. partnered with plastic bank. This would be another great small partnership and win for plastic bank , not only to partner with the big pharma or corporations who have had the biggest impact on the environment (Unilever and P &G), but better yet- starting at the source with the small mom-n-pop business, educating all on the importance of solving plastic waste. I would love to be a part of this company and begin helping to make the idea better and stronger; I have a diverse set of skills, contacts, and abilities to bring new ideas, and innovative thinking and deliver on marketing and communications needs. The first idea is free 😊 Thank you for considering this application. I welcome a conversation and look forward to further discussions where I can share more about my personal/professional experiences while learning more about your team and how we might be able to work together.
